First Class

Wow, that was fun! I'm happy to see that there will be a lot of class participation. I learn a great deal from all of you. Plus, you're just a fun group and you make the time pass quickly!

Dr. Miller asked us to write about our enablers and our barriers in regards to writing....

Enablers: I love to write! I 'write' in my head a lot, completing first and second drafts before I ever sit down at the laptop. The mental writing allows me to jot down sketchy outlines I can work off of so when I do start typing, it's much, much quicker!!

My husband is extremely supportive of my Ed.D work. My kids are clever, creative, and entertaining which helps me out when I get stuck trying to find the right thing to say, or I just need a laugh break.

I'm committed to doing whatever it takes to do the Ed.D work and to get the absolute MOST from this experience!

Barriers: I can't type worth a hoot....never took a class....and just developed my own crazy way to type that's a cross between typing and piano. In grad school my peers called a method like mine HPC (Hunt, Peck, and Cuss) but since I really try not to cuss, I guess my version is more HPF (Hunt, Peck, and Frown)......Anyway you look at it, it's a HUGE barrier to all of my writing!

That supportive husband of mine and 3 creative children are all high maintenance.....they are spoiled rotten and used to having me to talk with whenever the need arises. When it's in the middle of a paper I'm working on that gets touchy....I get frustrated and mean....and they all pout....still working on resolving that one~ It helps when I make an effort to have 1:1 time somehow with each of them weekly.

I have a LOT of emotional stuff going on right now in the lives of dear, close friends. That drains my heart and makes it difficult to think clearly sometimes.

OK. I'm going to stop now before the barriers outweigh the enablers!!

See you Thurs!!
