What I have learned about my writing

I have learned that I have very diverse writing styles depending on the topic, audience, and purpose. I can write a clear, to-the-point lit review using formal, active, 3rd person language. I can write a more artistic, flowery 1st person reflection that is ‘out there’. My natural style is the latter. In recent years I have written some grants and call for proposals for state and national conferences. Boy! That sharpened my writing style! There is no room for lard. It was a painful process but one that paid off big. I can see the results in my formal papers.

My reflective writing in this class lapsed back into my fuzzy, soft, and ambiguous tendencies. I have an implied point but not an explicit point. I am challenged to incorporate my formal skills in a reflective style and maintain my voice.
